End Of The Budget

This is the end of my journey with Project: Food Budget.  I learned quit a bit from this project.  Mostly that I am not very good at sticking to a budget!

This last week I did very little shopping.  I spent a measly $65 this week.   The super big haul that I did last week ended up working and I only went back for fresh fruit and some box lunch items.  I was very nervous that all that stuff would not last, but it did!  The only thing that we really ran out of were apples.  The meat situation lasted two weeks as well as the bread and such.

The one thing I really learned was that I felt really bad and guilty giving up quality for quantity.  I will continue to pinch pennies and budget better so that I can feed my family wholesome nutritious food that is chemical, hormone, and pesticide free.  That in the end was the most important thing that no dollar amount could make me compromise on.  I paid closer attention to what needed to be organic and what didn't...bananas.

I also learned that menu planning was just as important as budgeting.  They go hand in hand.  I would often get lazy and do just one, but that never worked.   As far as meal planning was concerned I saved a lot more when I just made what my family likes to eat and not force new meals on them all the time.  Kids like reputation, and they usually pick pretty healthy meals.  If I got sick of broccoli for the third time in a row, I could buy myself some sushi with all the money I had saved.

So even though the project is not going on anymore you can bet I will still be experimenting with ways to save my pennies!!!

  1. I think it's hard to find that balance between saving money and eating healthy. And one that most people struggle with daily.

So glad that you were a part of this project. Good luck with the future budgeting!
